Arktos Meadery which began distributing their award-winning meads in Grand Rapids last summer has now opened their tasting room on Grand Rapids southwest side. The location is at 1251 Century Avenue SW where an office suite has been converted into an authentic style mead hall. The grand opening was held on Saturday, August 15th with a full variety of both draft and bottled mead available and complimentary food. Owner and meadmaker Maciej Halaczkiewicz hosted a preview of the tasting room for Goblet Club members an hour prior to the official opening at 4 p.m.
The tasting room features 4 meads on draft including the exclusive Red Bear berry mead. The opening also featured on draft the Enchanted Horse honeycrisp cider which earned the silver medal at the 2014 Mazer Cup International, as well as the North Sea Dragon King hydromel and on nitro, the Queen Bee traditional mead. Additional meads that were available for tasting from the bottle included Three Bears Blueberry Melomel, Black Stripe Strawberry Melomel, and the Cricket Song Metheglin with imported Guatemalan green coffee beans. September will also see the release of the Fairy Godmother Pumpkin Mead.

Mead was available at the tasting room in sample flights as well as 10, 16, and 32 ounce pours as well as being available to go in bottles, and both 32 and 16 ounce growlers. The Goblet Club features personalized handmade ceramic goblets and is priced at $50 a year which includes first pour for free and 10% off all taps. The tasting room is currently open every Wednesday through Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. The tasting room is “food friendly” with nearby options including Sweetie Thai, Wing Kingz, as well as pizza delivery. Akrtos mead can also be found at any better specialty beer/wine stores in the Grand Rapids area as well as select locations in Holland, Traverse City, and Detroit.
