A Few Beers to Look Out For at 2012 Winter Beer Fest
Written by Jim BrownThe sold out Michigan Brewers Guild Winter Festival is just days away and the excitement is building. There will be 61 breweries showcasing over 450 beers and the festival layout has been expanded to accommodate the increased number of beer enthusiasts. This festival will be the largest single day event the Guild produces. Many of the beers that I picked to preview will only be available at the Festival. I have selected the following beers based on brewer/owner recommendations, personal intrigue, or the fact they just sounded cool. Some of these will be released at special times so check the event program and plan your attack.

Written by Staton LorenzThe SOLD OUT 3rd Annual Traverse City Microbrew & Music Festival Sat. Feb. 11, in the Village at Grand Traverse Commons, was AWESOME! Originally the Fest was planned for Old Towne in TC but the return to the site of the summer Porterhouse event was a blessing and a perfect combo to the annual VASA ski weekend.

Last weekend Paul and I had a booth at The Royal Oak Winter Beer Festival. This was a great event that was held in the beautiful Royal Oak Music Theatre located in Royal Oak, MI. We have never been to an event in a theatre like this before. I really loved how they utilized the unique space that they had. There were brewery tables set up on each tier of the floor with Michigan Brewing Company occupying the entire main stage. This was interesting to me beause you rarely see MBC at any events, let alone having more beers on tap than any other brewery in attendance.

The 4th Annual Fox Brew Ha HA was held at the Deltaplex in Grand Rapids, MI on Friday January 20th and Saturday January 21st. I was fortunate to attend this event with some friends this past Saturday afternoon. As a fan of fermented beverage local and fresh, I primarily sought out the many West Michigan breweries that participated in this event, from the total of 40 different breweries including an equal number of macros brews as micro. Needless to say, whatever your taste in beer, there was something to be had. Admission included 5 samples and a commemorative pint glass.
