HopCat – Royal Oak’s hiring center is now open as it prepares for a grand opening celebration on Saturday, May 20.
Hiring is under way to fill more than 130 jobs for bartenders, servers, cooks, hosts, security, food runners, bar backs, dishwashers and bussers. The temporary hiring center is located at 514 S. Washington, Royal Oak, one block west of HopCat, which is under construction at 208 5th Avenue.

The hiring center is open for walk-in, on-the-spot interviews from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Applicants can walk in with a resume for an on-the-spot interview.

When it opens at 11 a.m. May 20, the completely renovated building at 208 5th Avenue, will feature 100 carefully selected Michigan craft beers, a full menu of scratch- made food, a rooftop deck and bar, and a private dining room and bar.

The first 200 people in the door that day will receive a card good for a free order of HopCat’s award-winning Crack Fries every week for a year. Free orders of these famous fries will be available throughout the day to all who visit.

A special opening day tap list is being prepared that will feature seasonal, rare beers from breweries throughout southeastern Michigan.

HopCat – Royal Oak will be the sixth Michigan location for the award-winning restaurant and bar, which has been named a top beer bar in the nation by CraftBeer.com and Draft Magazine, among others.

Extensive renovations by HopCat and building owners are expected to result in an investment of more than $2.5 million. While Royal Oak will be the 13th HopCat location, it will feature a unique interior and rooftop design that includes custom-commissioned artwork and a few surprises.

“Although I'm from Grand Rapids, I've hung out with friends in Royal Oak more times than I can count,” said Mark Sellers, founder of HopCat. “I've always loved it, and I'm hopeful our newest, shiniest HopCat will add to the vibrant scene there. We spent a lot of time designing this one - there's nothing else like it in Royal Oak.”

HopCat’s full menu, available until closing every night, includes signature burgers, Detroit-style pizza, homemade soups and salads, a variety of shareables and entrees like customizable Killer Mac & Cheese.

HopCat – Royal Oak also will bring BarFly Ventures’ industry-leading waste reduction program to Royal Oak. The program has a goal of composting or recycling 90 percent or more of the waste generated at BarFly Ventures restaurants. In addition to draft beers and ciders, HopCat offers a selection of Belgian and specialty bottled beers, signature cocktails and a full bar.
