This year was the second year for Midtown on Tap put on by the Midtown Neighborhood Association in Grand Rapids. The event is held at the Midtown Green Park at Fountain and Eastern and was free to attend with family-friendly hours from 2 to 4 PM featuring helium balloons, face painting and frozen juice as well as games and prizes. Live music was also featured with local bands including Love Fossil, Cabildo, and The Juno Blacklist. The event also served to showcase local food vendors with a variety of options provided by B&Y BBQ and StoryLane Catering.
Brewery Vivant and the Hideout Brewing Company both provided a selection of local brews for the event. Hideout’s selections included their Coconut Almond Brown, while Brewery Vivant had 3 mainstays available on tap including Triomphe and Undertaker. O’Connors Home Brew Supply was on hand to announce the winners of their annual homebrew contest with the Best in Show winner having the opportunity to have their featured recipe brewed at and featured on tap at Rockford Brewing Company. The top 3 winners were as follows:
  • Jim Rasmussen: Best in Show, German Kolsch
  • Bill Stewart: 2nd Place and Radical Beer Category Winner, Pinetastic

O’Connor’s also teamed up with Hop Head Farms and Pilot Malt House and provided samples of some of their beers to try for free - one sample of each per attendee. These included: West Michigan Wheat, India Brown Ale, and Michigan Black Wheat IPA. A home brew demonstration using O’Connor’s own Oktoberfest recipe kit also took place during Midtown on Tap. In addition to all of the beer, hard Cider from the People’s Cider Co. was available including their Ginger Adams ginger-infused cider.
