mis 2015 recap article

Usually when you think of Michigan International Speedway (MIS), you think of cars racing, the smell of rubber and oil in the air, the excitement of the crowd watching a race. With MIS and Experience Jackson Wine and Beer Fest the crowd was excited this weekend but their excitement was all about sampling wine, beer and food items.
On first arriving, there was a huge painted sign on the tarmac welcoming you to the venue and Experience Jackson Wine and Beer Fest. Once inside there were a variety of tents to wander through and sample local and out of state items.

There was a plethora of wine, beer food and even spirits to taste and purchase. YES, purchase! This is the only festival I know of where you can buy bottles or cases of the wine and beer that you enjoy. They even held it for you and delivered it to your car when you were ready to go! How amazing is that?

The beer tent was busy from start to finish with people milling about and tasting different beers. I enjoyed trying a mead from Superior Lakes which was delicious. I had a fabulous time talking to the volunteers for Atwater Brewery where I had the Hop-aPeel with its orange citrus flavor it is a perfect summer drink. Atwater Brewery’s Vanilla Java Porter is one of my favorites and I had to have a cup or two of that. Cotton Brewery and Frankenmuth Brewery also had great options available.

Before the day was over I checked out the food area and a Reuben sandwich from Hooligan’s Grill Irish Hills burger sounded delicious. This was a feast for the taste buds with a generous portion of Angus corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and their own Thousand Island dressing. Served on marble rye it was nothing short of delicious. They have been put on my long list of places to try in the Jackson area.

I had a wonderful day enjoying the MIS atmosphere and getting to talk to many different people. Next year I will plan more room in my car for a case or two of my favorite drink.
