The sun came out early and decided to stay out all afternoon for this past weekend’s Beerfest at the Ballpark much to the welcoming of the thousands of attendees of the sold out festival. The event was put together in conjunction with I’m a Beer Hound’s own Paul Starr and the Cooley Law School Stadium in downtown Lansing, home of the Lansing Lugnuts. Over 30 breweries were spread out over 4 zones; with 2 zones being outside the entrance to the stadium and 2 zones inside the concourse.

Downtown Holland Groovewalk features bands, bars, and breweries

Downtown Holland’s Groovewalk featured 13 bands at 13 venues and including great local breweries and beer bars and a variety of both national and Michigan acts. The cost for a wrist-band was $15 and basically served as the cover charge for all of the locations plus free rides on the GrooveXpress (if preferred, although most of the locations were in easy walking distance also for those who preferred a pub crawl.) Live musicians entertained patrons while on opting for rides on the bus.

Homebrew Day has been designated on May 7th as a national holiday since 1988. The AHA (American Homebrewers Association) has selected 1st Saturday in May of each year to celebrate with a series “Big Brew” homebrew events throughout the U.S. This year, local homebrew and specialty store Siciliano’s Market stepped up to the plate and sponsored one in the Grand Rapids area. The event was held at downtown’s Calder Plaza, a very public location in close proximity to the City, County, and Federal buildings.
