Gravity Taphouse Grille is a new bar and restaurant located right of the Beltline exit of I-96 in Grand Rapids. The diverse beer menu features over 70 different drafts of a wide range of styles including local breweries as well as world-class beer from all over. The building which was formerly home to a Pizzeria Uno and most recently Malarky’s Sports Bar has been extensively remodeled with a high-tech feel and the addition of a new beer garden. Gravity Taphouse Grille is the latest in a series of projects brought together by the RedWater restaurant group which is also home to such other establishments as Reds on the River in Rockford, and FireRock grille in Caledonia.
My visit was during peak hours on a Saturday evening and while there was a significant wait for a table (although less than 1 hour,) my wife and I were immediately greeted by a bartender and before long were seated at the bar and browsing the extensive beer menu. The bartender impressed us with his beer knowledge and offered several suggestions for a flight. The beer menu is categorized making it easy to find the preferred balance of malt and hops and Michigan brewed beer is highlighted making it easy if looking for a local favorites. My own favorites included Short’s Prolonged Enjoyment, Founders Nitro Pale, and selections from my hometown Muskegon’s own Unruly Brewing Co.

Once seated, we enjoyed a complimentary serving of “kryptonite” - popcorn with peanuts, puffed corn, & bacon with an oatmeal stout caramel glaze. The food menu includes soups, salads, and sandwiches along with speciality pizzas and mac n’ cheese all with pairing suggestions to go along with the beer. The menu also features daily specials and gluten-free and vegan options for those on special diets. (Hard cider and gluten-free beer options are available also.) Gravity Taphouse does a weekday happy hour from 3-6 PM, and is open 7 days a week starting at 11 AM for lunch and until 8 PM on Sundays, 10 PM Monday through Thursday, and midnight on Friday and Saturdays. Growler fills are available as well!
