Recap of Oberon Release Party Tour in Muskegon

For this year’s Oberon release, I decided to make the rounds in Muskegon and attend as many different release parties as possible. First stop for the die-hards are the midnight releases, of course, which for this year meant staying up late on a Sunday. Being a work night I was surprised to find familiar faces at my local Buffalo Wild Wings who were happy to join me for some Oberon and some wings. Other Michigan beers currently on tap at the Muskegon location include Bell’s Two-Hearted, Founders Dirty Bastard, and Perrin Black Lager. Area Applebee’s were also featuring midnight Oberon releases.
Monday, March 25th is the official day of the release (timed to coincide with the start of baseball season,) and unless you are hiding a cave Oberon can be found everywhere. In Muskegon, Hank’s Tavern celebrated the release day with $2.00 10 oz pours and $4.00 “Imperial Pints.” Mondays is also ½ off Fresh Mex at Hank’s so I enjoyed my Oberon with an order of Fajitas. Other Bell’s selection on tap here include Two-Hearted and Quinannan Falls as well as choice beers from breweries including Dragonmead, Dark Horse, and New Belgium. Hank’s will also soon be featuring a Founders BURGERS AND BALLS beer dinner.

Pints and Quarts celebrated all week long with $2.00 pints of Oberon, but held off on their official release party until Thursday March 28th to coincide with their All Night Happy Hour featuring drink specials and 1/2 off appetizers including fresh pretzel bread and Thai lettuce wraps. Pints has also been featuring monthly tap nights featuring different breweries such as Founders and Mount Pleasant Brewing Co. Oberon release combined with some finally sunny weather in Muskegon to keep P’s & Q’s filled to capacity level almost all night long. My friends and I enjoyed fresh beers in the lobby while waiting for a table to open, being fully booked. Bell’s giveaways included T-Shirts, bumper stickers, and even beach towels. This year’s release may have started with snow still on the ground, but an Oberon in hand means plenty of sunny days ahead!
