Things have been very busy in the world of Hopcat with new locations springing up all over. Hopcat Detroit
is the most recent to open just a month ago with a world record setting 120 Short’s beers on tap
. Detroit joins the East Lansing
and Broad Ripple Indy
locations as the 4th Hopcat to open since the original original Grand Rapids
location opened 7 years ago. I recently paid a visit to the Grand Rapids location for their weekend-long celebration on the anniversary.
The celebration started right when the doors opened at 11 AM on Saturday with a line out the door for their anniversary bottle release. This year this included both the traditional anniversary Oil Rigger Russian Imperial Stout and also a special bottle release of the Red Nymph Flanders Red Ale. Both were limited releases and were sold out by 1 PM but plenty was available on tap including a tapping of the 2013 Oil Rigger release joined by Coconut Cherry Chocolate Oil Rigger, Mole Oil Rigger, Oil Nymph (an Oil Rigger/Red Nymph blend) and plenty of other Hopcat releases.
As tradition, Hopcat was giving out free orders of Crack Fries with any purchase until 5 PM and also held their now famous Crack Fry eating contest at 3 PM to raise money for Well House. This year also featured a 5-course beer dinner on Sunday pairing each serving with a different Hopcat beer. The 7 year anniversary party at Hopcat was a great start to what will likely prove to be another exciting year in the world of Hopcat, with new locations scheduled to open in Madison, Wisconsin and Ann Arbor, Michigan.
