CraftBeer.com has named the original HopCat in Grand Rapids, Mich., among its Top 5 Great American Beer Bars for 2014 and No. 1 Beer Bar in the North Central Region.
To celebrate, Monday, September 22, all three HopCat locations (Grand Rapids, East Lansing and Indianapolis) will offer $2 pints of Founders Brewing Co. Nitro Pale Ale, Red’s Rye and All-Day IPA. In addition, each location will offer a selection special tappings rare and special Founders brews at regular prices, including its famed KBS at HopCat in Grand Rapids and East Lansing and 2013 Backwoods Bastard at HopCat in Indianapolis. Details of those special tappings are available on each HopCat location’s Facebook page. (facebook.com/HopCat, facebook.com/hopcatbroadripple and facebook.com/hopcateastlansing)

“This award is a testament to how hard the employees at HopCat work to create a world-class showcase for craft beer,” said Mark Sellers, founder and owner of HopCat. “This one-day celebration will honor our roots in Grand Rapids with a great deal on beers from Founders, one of the nation’s most-respected breweries, which just happens to be located right around the corner from the first HopCat.”

This year marks the third year in a row HopCat has been named the top beer bar in the region by CraftBeer.com and among the top five beer bars in the nation.

HopCat was founded in Grand Rapids in 2008. In the years since then it has been named No. 1 brewpub in the nation by RateBeer.com and No. 3 Beer Bar on Planet Earth by BeerAdvocate.com.

In 2013 HopCat – East Lansing opened near Michigan State University with 100 Craft Beer taps, winning awards for Best New Restaurant, Best Place for Beer and Best Fries (Crack Fries) from the readers of Lansing CityPulse and Mlive.com. In August, HopCat – Broad Ripple opened in Indianapolis with 130 taps and the same commitment to showcasing great craft beer alongside “food your mom would make if she loved beer.”

Later this year HopCat – Detroit will open in the Midtown neighborhood with 130 craft beers on tap and a live music venue. In early 2015 HopCat – Ann Arbor will open in downtown Ann Arbor near the University of Michigan.
