Hideout Brewing Company launches new collaborative Beer City Pale Ale

Hideout Brewing Company was my first stop on my list to try the new Beer City Pale ale, as their brewmaster Wob is a ringleader of sorts for this new Grand Rapids collaborative brew. The hoppy new beer was an immediate hit among my friends and I, and the focus of many conversations overheard throughout the well attended brewhouse - the Michigan hops being a key factor for many, like myself, who prefer to keep things fresh and local.

Maybe you are even here visiting one of the many exceptional breweries such as Founders or Hopcat. Whatever the reason, a visit to the Monkey Bar at this building's basement level serving as the home of B.O.B's brewery equals a guaranteed exceptional find in this city already renowned for it's exceptional taste in beer.

The First Taste of Perrin Brewing Company at Hopcat

This summer the Greater Grand Rapids area will have another brewery for beer lovers to quench their thirst at: Perrin Brewing Company. Even though they’re not open yet, they had a special “First Drip” tapping last week of their Vanilla Porter at Hopcat in downtown Grand Rapids. I’ve been to Hopcat when it’s busy and slow. We need your help for Grand Rapids to WIN Beer City USA!

Grand Rapids is on the cusp of something very exciting. A few years ago, the venerable Yoda of American home brewing, Charlie Papazian, started a national poll contest called, "Beer City USA". The idea was to create a poll that went beyond sales statistics and market research to determine where in the country the most excitement and enthusiasm existed for craft beer. As craft beer has always been more about people rather than huge numbers and output, it was fitting that a poll like this be created. It gave the true lovers of craft beer a voice and the chance to stand up and declare their town, "Beer City USA"!

HopCat 4th Anniversary Celebration

This Saturday I attended the Hopcat 4th anniversary celebration. Two very limited edition bottled beers were made available specifically for the event; one being Oil-Rigger, a bourbon barrel-aged Imperial Stout, and the other being Golden Devil, a Belgian Strong Pale Ale brewed with Citron Green Tea.
