Harmony Brewing Company | Grand Rapids

Harmony Brewing Company is so new there was not yet a sign on the building when my friends & I visited earlier this week. If you are considering a stop soon, note the address of 1551 Lake Dr. SE, right in the heart of Grand Rapid's Eastown (and right off of Wealthy St. as well.) Locals may also recognize the location as the former Jack's Liquor Store. We knew we were in the right place when we spotted one of the bartenders of Grand Haven's Odd Side Ales leaving the premises, singing the praises of the chocolate honey porter.

AphrodisiAle is the proper name, and soon we were seated at the inviting bar with a few pints of such brew in front of us. Unfortunately, we'd miss the grand opening which featured 5 different taps, as the brewery was now down to 2 taps and working on getting a 3rd, a Rye P.A., back on tap. One of the casualties since the grand opening included Black Squirrel, another Porter but of the smoked variety. In the meantime, the remaining taps feature other breweries, including the previously mentioned Odd Side Ales. I enjoyed the Harmony's chocolate honey porter enough to help myself to a second.

In fact, we heard it claimed that Harmony has the “best wood-fired pizzas in G.R.” We opted to try the recommended Crispy Pig, which certainly lived up to the name. We left full enough that we declined dessert but definitely put me down for a return trip so that I can track down the elusive Black Squirrel!
