hop lot brewing article

The moment every beer-drinking, Northern-Michigander has been waiting for has finally arrived: Suttons Bay’s Hop Lot Brewing Company is open for business. Co-owners and brothers, Steve and Drew Lutke, have poured an enormous amount of effort into crafting this brewery into a fabulous place to enjoy the fresh outdoor air while drinking great beer. Don’t take my word for it though, swing up M22 and check it out for yourself.

Over a year in planning, Canton Brew Works opened to the public in late April. Owners Barry and Cara Boggs are excited to finally be able to share their beer with the eager residents of Canton and Western Wayne County.

techomsy brewing article

With microbrewries opening around the state in record numbers, the experience of Tecumseh Brewing Company’s founders have put them ahead of the usual learning curve.

I am enjoying the summer sun and spring break with my family in lovely North Carolina. April is Craft Beer month in North Carolina and you can tell with new breweries opening up all the time.

57 brew pub aricle

57 Brew Pub & Bistro is located on M-57 in Greenville which is northeast of Grand Rapids and was first established in 2012. Other breweries in close proximity include Perrin Brewing in Comstock Park and Rockford Brewing Company. As the name would suggest, 57 Brew Pub & Bistro is a full scale restaurant which is complemented by 12+ craft taps brewed in house including mainstays and seasonals. I recently paid my first visit to the brewery and was impressed with both the beer and the food and will be happy to add this place to my stops when making future rounds in the area.

north center brewing article

When I met up with North Center Brewing Company owner Kevin DeGrood, during their investor soft opening, I asked about their brewing philosophy. “For us it’s pretty simple- If you like it, it’s a good beer”, he said. That phrase is featured on the backs of their brewery t-shirts, and is a good summary of this new brewery that wants to approach beer in 'a less pretentious way'.

Batch Brewing- Constantly Evolving Beer

Written by Erik Smith

batch brewing article

For years, downtown Detroit’s microbrewery scene has lagged behind the rest of the state. There has been a recent influx of new restaurants and bars into the city, and, in February, two breweries in the Corktown neighborhood located just west of downtown.

rare bird pub article

Breweries everywhere are quickly popping up faster than the average person can find time to visit. With such a quick increase in great beer, brewers are seeking ways to differentiate themselves from each other. Rare Bird Brew Pub is no exception; this brewery offers a wide variety of their own brewed beers, as well as serving up fantastic brews from other craft breweries in their taproom.

Rare Bird generally has at least four of their own brews on tap, all strong in both taste and ABV’s. With names such as Pants Party American Pale Ale and Large Marge Belgian Special, you can’t help but get a chuckle out of each order. There are about thirty taps going at any time, making the selection of beers vast. Founder’s, Short’s, and Brewery Vivant are always well represented with both their latest and most classic brews. Additionally, Rare Bird offers wine, ciders, and a full liquor bar, making it easy to appease even the finickiest of drinkers.

If you like great craft beer, chances are your palette will go crazy over the Pork Belly Nachos. There is 99% chance that these are the best nachos in Traverse City. If you have a contender, please let me know as soon as possible so I can check them out. Other savory, edible items include the garlic dusted frites and the charcuterie board. All of the menu items pair wonderfully with Rare Bird’s beer, though I’m slightly biased considering I think beer pairs well with all food.

While enjoying your beer, you have the opportunity to watch the brewing process through large glass windows on the east end of the brew pub. Ginormous picnic tables make up the majority of the seating, making it a great place for groups or getting to know the new neighbor sitting next to you. Private booths and high top tables are available as well, so feel free to get cozy on date night.

I strongly encourage getting a flight of whatever brews have “recently hatched” to enjoy the full range of flavors that Rare Bird has to offer. Keep your eyes peeled for punny aviation and bird personification as well, this brew pub is delightfully witty.

welcome baffin brewery article

Baffin Brewing is Saint Clair Shores is a community focused brewery, like so many in Michigan’s thriving microbrewery scene. Since it’s opening in January, they have been delighting their customers with good beer and a welcoming, communal space.

enjoy relaxing at rupert brew house

It’s winter in Michigan, which means the only real thing to do is drink beer and eat food. In keeping with such expectations, I hit the road down south (45 minutes south) to Kalamazoo to check out some local breweries on a recent Tuesday.
