River’s Edge Brewing Co. recently earned a gold medal at the 2016 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) competition. Presented by the Brewers Association, GABF is the largest commercial beer competition in the world and recognizes the most outstanding beers produced in the United States.
The top three winners in the competition’s 96 beer-style categories were announced Oct. 8 at the Great American Beer Festival awards ceremony held at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado.

River’s Edge Brewing Co. was awarded a gold medal in the “export stout” beer-style category for its Dirty Frank Stout, a roasty, chocolatey, robust stout made with mild, brown rye and smoked malts, as well as molasses. The recipe began as one of the owner’s homebrew recipes and was scaled up and perfected by Head Brewer Kim Schneider.

“We’re absolutely thrilled and honored by the award,” said Ryan Wiltse, co-owner and general manager at River’s Edge Brewing Co. “Kim has done it yet again. A medal at the Great American Beer Festival last September, plus a bronze award for Dirty Frank at the World Beer Cup in May, and now a gold medal. The awards prove what all of us here at River’s Edge believe every day—that Kim is an outstanding and talented brewer that makes fantastic beer.”

The 2016 GABF competition winners were selected by an international panel of 264 expert judges from the record number of 7,227 entries, plus 88 Pro-Am entries, received from 1,752 U.S. breweries.

“The innovation, creativity and flavor of American beers was well showcased at this year’s Great American Beer Festival,” said Chris Swersey, competition manager, Great American Beer Festival. “This was the most competitive competition to-date, with a record number of entries. Congratulations to all the winners who truly demonstrated the best of America’s beer culture.”

River’s Edge is a 10-bbl microbrewery located at 125 S. Main Street in downtown Milford’s Southside. With the Huron River as a backdrop, River’s Edge specializes in a comfortable, community-oriented atmosphere focused on the well-crafted, balanced beers.
