Look out beer lovers, Lansing Brewing Company’s head brewer is ready to position the Capital city as Michigan’s newest hot spot for amazing microbrews.
Sawyer Stevens takes the helm as head brewer at the Lansing Brewing Company when the historic brewing company reopens after 100 years. In this position, he will oversee operations at the city’s one and only full-production craft brewery and distillery. Beer production is expected to begin in the next couple weeks in preparation for a fall opening.

“To say we are thrilled to have someone of Sawyer’s experience right here in Lansing is an understatement,” said Sam Short, Lansing Brewing Company consultant. “He is the perfect person to lead Lansing’s first post-Prohibition production brewery.”

Stevens most recently served as the lead brewer at Upper Hand Brewery, a division of Bell’s Brewery in Escanaba. His career has literally taken him across Michigan, including positions with Bell’s Brewery and Mount Pleasant Brewing Company. He is a cum laude graduate of Central Michigan University majoring in entrepreneurship and hospitality administration.

“Making beer in Michigan’s capital city is a cool, new chapter in my brewing career,” said Stevens. “Our assortment of beers will reflect the best of the brewery’s heritage with surprising new twists for today’s beer lovers.”

Located in the heart of the Stadium District at 518 E. Shiawassee St., Lansing Brewing Company will initially brew up to 10 craft beers, four spirits and two custom-blended wines. The 7,000-square-foot brewery also will house a restaurant, featuring classic American comfort food, and a full production facility.
