RateBeer.com has been busy. First, they came out with their yearly list of 100 best in the world. This is heavy competition for any brewer, and something for which so many strive for. Second, they also came out with the best India Pale Ale in the world. Hint; It is a Michigan brewery.
Lets talk about this List of 100 Best Beers In The World. The United States dominated on this lineup. There were a few favorites from Netherlands, Canada, Denmark and England with Belgium being the second country after the U.S. for favorite beers.

I was surprised at the sheer number of U.S. brewers listed. Seven Vermont brews were near the top of the list from Hill Farmstead Brewery. If you are traveling out east, make sure they are on your list of breweries to visit. I was surprised to see Sam Adams only had one favorite beer, it seems even though they are one of the oldest craft breweries in the U.S., they do not produce favorite beers, according to RateBeer.com. There were also good showings with five favorite beers from Toppling Goliath in Iowa and Russian River Brewery in California.

I know, I know. It is fun to learn about how beers rated from other areas of the country, but you really want to know what Michigan breweries and beers made the list.

First on the list is one of my favorite breweries from Grand Rapids, Founders Brewing Co. They had four favorite beers: Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout, Founders Backwoods Bastard, Founders Breakfast Stout, and Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout. Founders Brewing Co. was also named as best brewer tap room.

Next from Kalamazoo is Bell's Brewery with three in the list: Bell's Black Note Stout, Bell's Expedition Stout, and Bell's Hopslam Ale. They were also named in another list as the top brewer in Michigan. In addition to these high marks, their Two Hearted Ale was named as the best India Pale Ale in the World by RateBeer.com.

Finally we have one favorite from Dark Horse Brewing Co.: Bourbon Barrel Plead the 5th Imperial Stout. This beer is by far one of my favorites from Dark Horse and I am so glad to see it on the list.

RateBeer.com had this to say about craft brewers, “We recognize the hard work and consistency that goes into making these styles traditionally, and in new brewing traditions, fine appreciation and precision. This is truly all about showcasing an array of the world's finest brewers.” We could not agree more. A lot of hard work is put into planning and creating of each craft beer and to see familiar names on a list of favorites is inspiring. I can't wait to see what these brewers come up with in 2015.
