Kuhnhenn Brewing Co Announces Details for Winter Solstice

Annual Bottle Release Event Expands to Three Days this December 19-21
Limited bottle release events at breweries are becoming the norm in recent years, but Michigan-based Kuhnhenn Brewing Co has been doing this for over a decade.

Kuhnhenn Brewing Company - 4DKuhnhenn currently bottles their beers just twice a year, at Solstice Celebrations in Summer and Winter. Each December, beer aficionados from around the country and beyond descend upon the brewery and wait in line up to ten hours before opening for a chance to purchase bottles of some of the rare offerings, including the highly-regarded Fourth Dementia Olde Ale (4D), Gold-medal winner at both the World Beer Cup and Great American Beer Festival in 2010.

This year, fans will also be able to acquire bottles of two vintages of Bourbon Barrel Aged 4D, from 2012 and 2013. In total, 9 beers and 6 meads will be available for purchase.

A heated, tented biergarten will be erected in the brewery parking lot, more than doubling capacity for the event. Live bands will be featured throughout the event, and Detroit BBQ Company will provide food service. Additionally, the brewery has secured shuttle service and specials on rooms at official Winter Solstice hotels: TownPlace Suites, Comfort Inn, and Baymont Inn and Suites, all in Warren.

A full schedule of Solstice happenings is as follows:

Thursday (12/19): Solstice Pre-Party featuring the first tappings of many of the Solstice beers, along with live music inside by Singer-Songwriter George Heritier and Nick and Reggie’s Acoustic After Party.

Friday(12/20): Solstice Eve and the Countdown to Bliss, featuring timed tappings of rare and cellar-conditioned vintage beers, plus Solstice beers on draft. Music in the tent by local ska-punk bands CBJ and St Thomas Boys Academy.

Saturday(12/21): Solstice Bottle Releases at 9:00am. A full list of available bottles, including limits and other details is available on Facebook or by request. Music in the tent by Dockside Six, The Orbitsuns, and Reggie Smith and the After Party.

In keeping with Yuletide traditions, Wassail toasts will occur throughout the event on Friday and Saturday, in celebration of the Solstice. Kuhnhenn Wassail is a mulled blend of beer, mead, fruits and spices, served warm.

“We are extremely humbled by the outpouring of interest from beer fans across the globe in our Solstice releases. It’s not uncommon to see license plates from as far away as the west coast and Canada, or have a conversation with a group from Germany or Scandinavia,” stated Jon Piepenbrok, Director of Marketing and Sales for Kuhnhenn Brewing Co. “We are excited to grow this event bigger and bigger each year, exposing people to great beers, great music and great food, all while supporting great causes.”

The brewery is working with several local charities this year. Detroit Dog Rescue will be collecting blankets, food and other pet items. Coats, hats and gloves will be collected for local homeless shelters. Non-perishable food items will be donated to local food pantries.

Distribution News:

Additionally, Kuhnhenn Brewing Co is pleased to announce its partnership with Imperial Beverage of Kalamazoo and Alliance Beverage of Grand Rapids. Imperial will handle distribution for Kuhnhenn brands in Southwest Michigan and the UP, while Alliance will distribute the brand in the Grand Rapids and Lakeshore regions. Expect full distribution to take place by late spring 2014.

About Kuhnhenn Brewing Company:

Bret and Eric Kuhnhenn began brewing their own beer in college. Kuhnhenn Brewing Company was founded in 1998, selling homebrew supplies out of the family hardware store and eventually becoming licensed as a Microbrewery four years later. The brewery is consistently ranked in the top breweries in the world on beer rating websites Beer Advocate and RateBeer. They are known both for high-gravity experimental beers, and their accurate interpretations of traditional styles.

The brewery has won countless awards at competitions across the world. In 2012 they were awarded a Gold Medal in the IPA category at the World Beer Cup for DRIPA (Double Rice IPA), the largest category entered and one typically dominated by large West Coast breweries. Kuhnhenn Braggot (a mead/beer hybrid) also took home a Bronze Medal in the 2012 Great American Beer Festival.

Kuhnhenn Brewing Company operates facilities in Warren and Clinton Township, MI, as well as a homebrewing supply store, Brewing World, also in Warren. They currently employ over 30 employees, with plans to hire up to 30 more in the next six months, as expansion plans continue to allow production of nearly 20,000-barrels of craft beer and mead.

Kuhnhenn Brewing Company is a proud member of the Michigan Brewers Guild, the Brewers Association and the Master Brewers Association of the Americas.
