Spring Lake's Vander Mill Cidery has something new to offer this year: beer!

Debuted at Winter Beer Fest in February with temperatures in the low 20s; and now, just a few weeks later with West Michigan temperatures aproaching 80 degrees, Vander Mill has already begun expanding hours and making the new beers (as well as hard ciders and apple wines,) available to be enjoyed in their cider garden.
Spring Lake's Vander Mill Cidery Has Something New To Offer This Year: BEER!My favorite of the new beers is the Chapman's Golden Strong, an 8.5% ABV Belgian Golden fermented with a one fifth apple cider base. Also available is the Half Pint Lager and a 50/50 cider beer blend. Free samples of the wines are available as well, and I highly reccomend the Essence of Apple, a Brandy fortified "sipping" wine of 16% alcohol.

In addition to beverages, Vander Mill offers a small shop as well as a bakery with a high reputation for their donuts. (When available, the pumpkin donuts are always a hit.) During the Summer and Fall, a lunch menu is offered as well feauturing soup and sandwiches. Standard Pizza Co.'s traveling wood-fired pizza oven has been known to make visits on the weekends.

For the last couple of years, Vander Mill has closed out the Fall in style with an early October celebration called "Vander Fest." This extravangaza is not to be missed. A multitude of Michigan meaderies, mirobreweries, and cideries all converge along with food, music, and of course, lots of fun. Many beverages are brewed exclusively for the event with an emphasis on the fall theme. Last year's event also featured a laser show. Past participants have included: Odd Side Ales, New Holland, Brewery Vivant, and Hopcat to name a few. Each year has the festival has been bigger and better, and if the trend continues 2012 promises to be an absolutely unforgetabble experience. I suggest buying tickets early.
