The Upper Peninsula may soon be welcoming a major player into its craft beer scene. On April 25th Escanaba's city council is expected to approve an offer from Mr. Larry Bell, president of Bell's Brewery, to purchase two parcels of land for the amount of $35,000. The property sits in Escanaba's Whitetail Industrial Park (Street View of parcel: http://goo.gl/maps/xm48K
), an area that the city has been developing for several years. Mr. Bell is also requesting the right of first offer to purchase additional land to the west.
The purpose of this purchase, is of course, for the construction of a brewery and bottling manufacturing plant. Per a letter from Mr. Bell, this facility is to be operational within 18 months from the time of closing on the property. It is unclear at this time whether this will strictly be a production facility, or if there will be a taproom as well.
Clearly there is much more information to come, but this is a very exciting proposition for the city of Escanaba and the upper peninsula's craft beer scene. You can view the city council agenda here (http://www.escanaba.org/images/5/file/Council%20Agenda/2013-Agenda/CC04252013Agenda.pdf).
