Pike 51 Brewing Co. celebrated Knight’s Fest on Saturday September 19th from noon until 11 p.m. with special beer releases, live music, and food from Pietro’s Italian restaurant. The event showcases the fall releases from the brewery with a beer tent which also featured the annual release of the Hudsonville Winery’s Harvest wine along with a bottle release for a selection of Pike 51’s beers. In addition to the beer tent, a full tap lineup was featured inside as well with 25 or more different beers available for the fest.

pike 51 ipa day may

Hudsonville’s Pike 51 Brewing Co. is one of several breweries that has made it a tradition to unleash a wide range of specialty beer releases on (or near) the date of April 20th (“420”) each year in honor of their favorite plant. Just in case you have any strange ideas about this; of course, we are talking about hops. Seeing that this year April 20th fell on a Monday, Pike 51 chose to start the celebration a couple days early on Saturday April 18th. The celebration began, appropriately enough, at high noon.

Hopcat and Pike 51 keep hopheads high for 4/20 (“weed day!”)

“Weed day” might not be a national holiday (at least not yet, anyway,) but 4/20 has been associated traditionally with the controversial herb for decades dating back to the use of 420 as a police code. A couple of Grand Rapids-area breweries thought they would have fun with using the date to promote a related weed - hops, and have enough IPAs on tap too keep any hophead high throughout the day!

White Flame Celebrates 1 Year Anniversary with Black Flame Barrel Aged Imperial Stout Release Party

Hudsonville’s White Flame Brewing Co. has had a fantastic first year, with accolades including but not limited to their 2nd place victory in Grand Rapids Museum’s prestigious Brewers Challenge with their Michigan-sourced MI(Pa), their breast cancer research funding Hooterville Wheat, and their contributions to the Beer City collaborative featuring their own “Grand Pumpkin” Cinnamon Cocoa Coffee Pumpkin Stout on nitro. My own personal favorite beer from White Flame’s 1st year of brewing would be the Bourbon Barrel Black Sheep - pulling off all of the correct flavors for an aged IPA is no easy feat but the BB Black Sheep does this exceptionally well.
