For the third year, bicyclists gathered early at Rockford Brewing Co. for this year’s 14.7 mile Fly to the Coq group bike ride. The ride starts on the White Pine trail outside the brewery eventually making it’s way through the streets of Eastown to Brewery Vivant. Prior to the event, a celebratory tapping of the Fly2Coq Rockford edition collaborative brew occurred at 11 a.m. with bikers departing Rockford at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 7th.
The weather forecast this year did not look great, but that did not deter anyone from participating in this year’s ride. And for the most part, the weather held off with a full house arriving to Brewery Vivant where the Vivant edition of the Fly2Coq Hoppy Belgian Saison ale was tapped at 2 p.m. Many of those riding chose to cool off outside at Brewery Vivant’s beer garden while enjoying a few pints. Later this year, Brewery Vivant will host the return trip Coq to the Fly group bike ride event making the journey back to Rockford Brewing in the fall.

Later the same week Rockford Brewing celebrated the Start of Summer Celebration downtown festivities with a beer tent, bands, and BBQ from the Grist Mill. (The Grist Mill is also currently featuring a new “Beer N’ BBQ” menu each Thursday at the brewery.) This year’s band lineup included The Crane Wives as well as Hannah Rose and the GraveTones. This year’s featured beers included Citra Obsession, the first in a series of single-hopped IPAs, and White Pine Weiss along with the tapping of many library beers. The celebration was a weekend-long event beginning Thursday in the evening and ending on Saturday.
