Hudsonville’s Pike 51 Brewing Co. is one of several breweries that has made it a tradition to unleash a wide range of specialty beer releases on (or near) the date of April 20th (“420”) each year in honor of their favorite plant. Just in case you have any strange ideas about this; of course, we are talking about hops. Seeing that this year April 20th fell on a Monday, Pike 51 chose to start the celebration a couple days early on Saturday April 18th. The celebration began, appropriately enough, at high noon.
This year’s event featured several bottles releases along with special beer releases on draft. Mug club members were allowed early entry at 11 AM with the bottles being made available to the public at 12 noon. The bottle releases were as follows:

Renegades of Funk Wild IPA. in 22oz bombers, along with

Sensual Bean Bourbon Barrel Imperial Stout and

Jeff's Birthday Bourbon Barrel English Barleywine available in 12 oz bottles.

Special draft releases included multiple variants of Pike 51’s Kush IPA, Hopnosis Extra Pale, and Jughead Pale each including a version with a specially selected Hop Head Farms hop as well as another version of each with a specially selected Michigan Hop Alliance hop. Other releases this year included the 2015 Satisfied Mind Double IPA and a Dry Hemp Belgian IPA. This year’s event also featured food from Pietro’s as well as live music in the evening. Additionally, the Kush IPA was featured on tap at various Hopcats this year (including the Grand Rapids location) as part of their “Super Dank” event celebrated on Monday, April 20th.

Pike 51 will be one of many breweries featured for this year’s 2nd annual Beer City Springfest to be held on Saturday, May 2nd at the Hudsonville Fairgrounds. Additionally stay tuned for news on Pike 51’s anniversary party which has been traditionally held each year on the first weekend in June.
