Recap of 2014 Founders Firkin Freezeout

Just as nothing beats an ice cold lager after a hot summer day of yard work, Michigan’s long cold winters are best paired with a strong and flavorful locally brewed craft beer, and what better way to appreciate a locally crafted ale then straight from a firkin? Founders Firkin Freezeout featured 50 different firkins tapped in their new beer garden where thirsty patrons gathered for an afternoon of fun, food, and beverage which included a live ice carving and smoked kielbasa kabobs.
Just one week ahead of Winter Beer Fest, and right on the heels of the preceding Grand Rapids Beer Week is when Founders chose to hold their first ever Firkin Fest. The Firkins were tapped 6 at a time, with variations of Founders mainstays such as Red’s Rye, All Day IPA, Dirty Bastard, and Founders Porter infused with all manner of hops, spices, extracts, and fruit to create an intoxication array of unique flavors. Tap Room speciality Ruby Crystal Mandarina received the firkin treatment as well. The Firkin Freezeout served as a pleasant surprise for many accustomed to Founders normal schedule of tapping a single mug club-only firkin once during the week with one additional public firkin tapping each weekend. (These release typically do not last long.)

Founders also has big plans for their KBS release this year. In addition to to launching the world famous beer on draft and in bottles via a ticketed release, the brewery is also celebrating “KBS week” by providing kegs to Michigan beer-friendly bars and restaurants all throughout Beer City. The week of the release is scheduled for March 18th - 22nd with the ticket for the bottle release available beginning Saturday, March 1st. KBS will still be released through all of the usual channels throughout the normal distribution channels beginning in April.
