We are excited to see that Ozone Brewhouse is opening this weekend! When we first stopped in this spring they had a lot of work to do to the brewing space and tap room area that is now Ozone Brewhouse.
Dan and Kyle Malone, father and son have put a lot of hard work and late nights into creating a brewery they are proud to share with Old Town Lansing and beyond. Ozone is located at 305 Beaver Street, in a simple warehouse that will soon serve not-so- simple beers.

When we first sat down to talk about beer at Meat, both Dan and Kyle were excited to try new flavors and expand your palate. Kyle is excited for people to try his 48 Michigan SMASH so named from when Michigan State University kept University of Michigan to negative 48 rushing yards in 2013. With its pineapple flavor and bubblegum aroma this beer wants you to close your eyes and savor the flavor on your palate. Ozone’s hefeweisen, Snap Hook, keeps the football theme going. And, bonus, it tastes like chocolate covered bananas. I was most looking forward to trying Kryptonite, Kyle's amber aie. It has hints of cherry vanilla and a finish of caramel and biscuit. Kryptonite does not disappoint!

During our first interview with Ozone’s owners, Kyle was very adamant that he wanted to make unique beers people would look forward to trying. Dan knew you couldn’t just make average beers, you need to create beers which draw people in. From the tasting we had, it seems the pair has accomplished what they set out to do.

With the tap room holding 50 people and the patio holding 30 we see a busy future for this quiet space of Old Town. My friend Josi who lives around the corner from the brewery is excited that she can just walk to brewery and as she jokingly told me, “Stumble home afterward.” She has been following Ozone online and been watching the activity happening at the old warehouse space and is happy to see a new business open in Old Town.

From the very beginning, they wanted to incorporate a little bit of Old Town history into the new space and with a lot of hard work and polish, the original bar from the Mustang Bar on Turner has pride of place in the tap room now. It boasts a new unique top to welcome the old and new together.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will be Friday, August 12 at noon with beers from $5.25 to $6.25. Currently Ozone does not have a kitchen, but our old friends from Reo Town, Good Truckin’ Food Truck will be parked out front serving great food.
