Hudsonville Winery’s 3rd anniversary 2 years ago also marked the grand opening celebration for the addition of the Pike 51 Brewing Co. So for 2014, the winery is now celebrating 5 years in a shared celebration with Pike 51’s 2 years and this year the outdoor festival was boosted by some of the best weather yet.
The anniversary served as a release party for 3 seasonal wines including the White Sangria as well as Pike 51’s anniversary bottle release of Heavy Soul, a barrel-aged Imperial Porter. Many other specialty releases were tapped for the party as well as food and live music and entertainment for the event which lasted from early afternoon and through the evening.
While Pike 51’s full beer lineup was available via their main taps in the bar, the outdoor beer tent featured several specialty releases concocted exclusively for the event. Among the offerings was Pike 51’s Batch 204 (which is “51” x 4, you do the math!) which is a Glacier Hop Pale Ale featuring Michigan hops from Hop Head Farms located in Hickory Corners. Other brews available included the Thai Me Up pepper-infused Tall Boy, Funk Buddies American Wild Ale, and a white wine oak-aged Kush IPA. I stuck to the specialty releases for this event and everything I tried was very solid, I hope to return soon to sample some of the brews I missed out on!

Bands for this year’s event included the acoustic blues and country of the B-Side Growlers, rock and soul from Big Willy and the rockabilly of Delilah DeWylde and the Lost Boys. Also featured for entertainment and also with two acoustic mini-sets in between performers was the one and only “Michigan Beer Dude” himself Ben Darcie who of course is no stranger to the I’m a Beer Hound blog. BBQ pulled pork and beef brisket sandwiches were included among the food options as well as soft pretzels as an appetizer and Macadamia Nut White Chocolate Chip Cookies for dessert. Between the bands, food, beer, great weather and wine, I can certainly say this year’s celebration was an unqualified success for both Pike 51 and Hudsonville Winery.
