Short's Brewing Company: Brewery Review

If Joe Short is the Willy Wonka of Beer then the Shorts pub and microbrewery in Bellaire, Michigan is his “Chocolate Factory.” For the already infinitely seeming variety of beers available in 6-packs produced at the main facility in Elk Rapids, the pub (and fully functioning microbrewery in it's own right,) is also a source of an even greater variety of beers. With 20 beers on tap all the time and many pub exclusives, it is no wonder that beer enthusiasts from around the world seek out this, the public headquarters of the pro-Michigan brewery.

Recap of Gracie’s Place Beer Dinner Featuring Short’s Brewing Company

Last week we attended a beer dinner at Gracie’s Place in Williamston, Mi. This event featured a 5 course meal, each course being paired with a different Short’s beer. Gracie’s Place is a beautiful restaurant in the heart of Williamston’s historic downtown. It has a warm, inviting, and upscale feel as soon as you walk through the door. The walls are decorated with eclectic artwork which looks like it is from local artists. This art just ads to the fantastic atmosphere.

Recap of Barrel-Aged Beer Night at The Shark Club in Howell

On Thursday night we went out to the Shark Club in Howell for their Barrel-Aged Beer Night. The Shark Club is a big place that can fit around 300 people and at this event there had to be at least 150 patrons out enjoying barrel-aged beers. It’s cool to see this kind of turn out since barrel-aged beers are more of an acquired taste and probably not the first choice for an average beer drinker. I must say it’s nice to see people appreciating great beer and the quality of the beer bring them in the door instead of a $2 beer night.

How to Make a Fruity Ice Cream While using Short's Soft Parade

I wanted to try something more fruity than chocolaty for this batch of ice cream. The delectable Soft Parade fruit-infused rye ale from Short's Brewing in Bellaire seemed like a good starting point. I also added some peach syrup from Torani (the stuff they use at coffee shops) to add flavor and chopped up some gummy peach rings to put in the ice cream. The result was pretty good. Not an A+ but a solid effort. I would perhaps add more syrup the next time.

Shark Club's Barrel Aged Beer Night - Howell Mi

Come enjoy Beer aged in all sorts of Barrels!
This is a cool event going on at the always exciting Shark Club Billiards and Night Club in Howell. Their normal lineup of craft beers is fantastic, but on March 29th it gets even better (and boozier) for their Barrel Aged Beer Night featuring more than ten barrel aged beers from around Michigan and beyond.

Interview with Jon Wojtowicz from Short's Brewing Company

We had a chance to catch up with Jon Wojtowicz, self described, "Beer Liberator", of Short's Brewing Company at the Michigan Brewers Guild Winter Beer Festival. Short's Brew Pub is located in Bellaire, a sleepy town set in the beautiful Grand Traverse Bay area of Michigan. This year, they featured 11 of their beers on a brand new, 22 tap system designed just for events like the Winter Beer Fest.

A Few Beers to Look Out For at 2012 Winter Beer Festival

The sold out Michigan Brewers Guild Winter Festival is just days away and the excitement is building. There will be 61 breweries showcasing over 450 beers and the festival layout has been expanded to accommodate the increased number of beer enthusiasts. This festival will be the largest single day event the Guild produces. Many of the beers that I picked to preview will only be available at the Festival. I have selected the following beers based on brewer/owner recommendations, personal intrigue, or the fact they just sounded cool. Some of these will be released at special times so check the event program and plan your attack.
