        Michigan Brewers Guild Presents Inaugural “Tom Burns Award” – Recognizing the Pioneering Spirit of the Great Beer State – to Larry Bell of Bell’s Brewing Company

Nearly 200 leaders in the state’s craft brewing industry were present at the Michigan Brewers Guild annual conference which took place at Shanty Creek Resort in Bellaire last week, where the inaugural “Tom Burns Award” – recognizing the pioneering spirit of the “Great Beer State” – was presented to Larry Bell of Bell’s Brewery in Galesburg, Michigan.
According to Eric Briggeman, President of the Michigan Brewers Guild, Larry Bell was one of four nominees for the award, the others being Ron Jeffries from Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales, Fred Bueltmann from New Holland Brewing Co., and John Linardos from Motor City Brewing Works.

Michigan Brewers Guild Announces 2012 Board of Directors

The Michigan Brewers Guild recently elected its 2012 Board of Directors at its annual meeting, January 12, at Shanty Creek Resort in Bellaire. Each board position is a two-year term, elected in alternating years (3, 2).

/house-bill-passed-to-allow-Homebrew to be Served at Licensed Michigan Breweries For Homebrew Club Meetings Competitions

Last week, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder signed Michigan House Bill 4061, an amendment to the Michigan Liquor Control Code. What does this mean? In short, it allows homebrew clubs to hold meetings or competitions at establishments that have liquor licenses, including: brewpubs, breweries, bars, and beer stores. This was previously not allowed, even though some clubs flew under the radar and did it anyway.
