Recap of 2013 BRU Fest in Grand Rapids

BRU Fest brings together beers, burgers, and wings and all for a good cause - to benefit the Children’s Leukemia Foundation (CLF) of Michigan. The event has been success for several years over on the east side of the State in Royal Oak, MI and with the CLF also recently opening an office in the Grand Rapids area as well, BRU FEST has now made it’s Beer City debut!
Bell’s was on hand to provide the beer, and went above and beyond expectations with ample selection of mainstays, seasonals, specialities, and even rare brews. The event included a souvenir 2013 BRU Fest mug and 10 drink tokens which were good for half pours (or 2 tokens for full pours). Some standouts for me included the Quinannan Fall Special Lager Beer, the Hopsolution Double IPA, and Le Batteur Ale which was one of the three different interpretations of the French Bierre de Garde style available at the fest. Also featured were the world-class Bell’s Black Note Stout and popular Uberon barrel-aged Oberon.

The event also included 4 food tickets which were good for both Bagger Dave’s Burgers or Buffalo Wild wings. Bagger Dave’s offered for choices their Fiery Bleu Buffalo Burger and The Stout It Burger as Turkey Burgers (recommended!) and also the Swiss ‘N’ Tangled Burger and The Off The Rail Burger for their Beef Burger options. Buffalo Wild Wing options included Parmesan Garlic, Medium, Honey BBQ, Spicy Garlic, Asian Zing, and Caribbean Jerk. I tried several different varieties and thought the Caribbean Jerk had the most kick, and paired well with IPAs. The entertainment stage also provided continuous live music throughout the evening.

The Children’s Leukemia Foundation is based on Troy, Michigan and has raised over 6.5 million dollars towards research. More information can be found via their website at: http://leukemiamichigan.org/
