Fork Fest brought over 40 different local food vendors to the Romence Garden & Greenhouses on Lakeside Dr. in northeast Grand Rapids for an evening of food, beverage, and fun. Admission include unlimited helpings to food samples ranging from small portions to whole plate-fulls while drink tickets for purchase provided attendees with a selection of beer from Brewery Vivant which included the seasonal Pumpkin Tart, hard ciders from Vander Mill such as Totally Roasted with cinnamon roasted pecans, and Fenn Valley wine.
Brewery Vivant was also a food vendor for the event with their chef preparing a smoked pork rillette for the event. Other Michigan-beer friendly food vendors included Brann’s, Twisted Rooster/Crooked Goose, and the Gilmore Collection which includes downtown’s B.O.B.’s Brewery. Also on hand was an Eastown favorite, GOJO Ethiopian Cuisine providing plate-fulls of a full variety of their offerings. Live music for the event included folk music from The Fauxgrass Quartet.

Fork Fest is put on by Local First of West Michigan with an emphasis on locally sourced and sustainable food products. Many vendors from the Downtown Market were featured prominently, including Love’s Ice Cream, and Field & Fire Bakery. The Downtown Market recently announced the addition of a Slow’s Bar B Q as one of their newest flagship tenants. As a supporter of the local craft beer community, the emphasis on local is something I found to have a shared interest in with Fork Fest.

As a footnote, I should add that this event was brought to my attention via the EatGr community which focuses on locally based West Michigan restaurants and food vendors. For fans of local beer who would are interested in supporting their local food scene also, I would suggest checking out the EatGR Community Page on Facebook for more information, and also the EatGR website.
