griffen claw distillery awards

Griffin Claw Brewing Company, Birmingham’s popular taproom, biergarten, brewing and distributing facility, is pleased to announce it’s been awarded a Gold Medal and two Bronze Medals from the American Crafts Spirits Association (ACSA) during the organization’s Second Annual Craft Spirits Competition held on February 15, 2015 at the ACSA Distillers Convention and Vendor Trade Show in Austin, Texas.
Three hundred and twenty-nine entries were submitted from over 200 craft spirits distilleries from across the country in six main categories: Whiskey, Brandy, Rum, Gin, Liqueurs, Distilled Spirits Specialty (DSS), and Vodka. Griffin Claw Brewing Company won a Gold Medal for its Griffin Claw Vodka Distilled From Grain and Bronze Medals for its Griffin Claw Vodka Distilled From Potato and its Griffin Claw KRUPNIK, a polish style honey liqueur.

“This is the first competition we have entered for our spirits and we’re extremely happy with the results,” said Dan Rogers, Head Brewer, Distiller and Director of Brewing Operations at Griffin Claw Brewing Company.” “A new door has been opened for us and we are proud of the fact that Griffin Claw Brewing Company’s spirits are made in-house from scratch. We mash, ferment, strip, the whole shebang ourselves and are not buying neutral grain spirits from another distiller or supplier.”

Griffin Claw Brewing Company began offering its vodka and gin by the glass in the Taproom in April 2014. Last December, Griffin Claw spirits became available for purchase in 750ml-sized bottles just in time for the holiday season. Griffin Claw Grain Vodka, Griffin Claw Potato Vodka, Griffin Claw Botanical Gin and Griffin Claw Black Strap Rum and KRUPNIK all retail for $20 each. “We will be adding more spirits down the road and plan on coming out with different rums next,” added Rogers.
Griffin Claw Brewing Company’s Taproom is open Tuesday through Thursday from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m., Fridays from noon to 12 a.m., Saturdays from noon to 12 a.m., Sundays noon to 10 p.m. and closed on Mondays.
