has been quietly producing quality craft spirits from Cellar Brewing’s
location out of Sparta, Michigan since late 2013 but has only recently received necessary labeling and distribution approval to make their full line of spirits available outside the brewery. In fact, the distilling license actually predates current owner Chuck Brown’s
ownership and the brewery still offers flavored vodkas which has long allowed for mixed drink options for customers in addition to craft beer. For upgrading the distilling component, the new owner has brought in new equipment as well as brought in distiller Joel Bierling
to oversee operations.
Bier Distillery’s current line of craft-distilled spirits include non-barrel aged products such as Just the Shine Moonshine, Heart Cut Vodka, as well as Gin and Rum. Also available is the Sole Cry Rye White Whiskey which also be featured soon in a 1-year aged Reserve version. 6-month barrel aged products are also currently available which include planked Devil’s Message Rum and the “oldtime” version of Just the Shine Moonshine. Recently, as an experiment, several of the Cellar Brewing beers have been distilled to be previewed at an upcoming DrinkGR meetup scheduled for Thursday, February 19th starting at 5:30 PM.
Bier Distillery has recently hosted tastings at various Grand Rapids locations including Tuscan Liquor & Deli, Bellavino’s Fine Wine & Spirits, and Rishi’s International Beverage and will be expanding soon into neighboring Cities & Townships also, so keep an eye on their Facebook page for the latest info: https://www.facebook.com/BierDistillery.
