Beer the Change Brewery Vivant takes over Twisted Rooster to fight hunger

On Thursday, Nov. 21, Grand Rapids’ Twisted Rooster will make room on its draft list for half a dozen beers from Brewery Vivant. The event is expected to pique the interest of local beer geeks with this season’s restaurant debut of Vivant’s PlowHorse, a 9 percent-ABV imperial stout with enough muscle to banish the mid-November chill.

A Guide to Beer City, Vegan Style

A Guide to Beer City, Vegan Style

In addition to being widely recognized for the beer accolades, Grand Rapids also has a great reputation for being a vegan-friendly City. One may not immediately recognize the two things as going hand in hand, but in actuality there are some surprising connections. To start with, beer as a beverage can be a good fit in vegan diet, with only a few styles (i.e. Milk Stout) being inherently non-vegan. So where are some good places to enjoy a vegan meal along with your favorite Michigan Craft beers?

Chill, Wind, and a Little Rain Won't Deter a Soldout Crowd at Detroit Fall Beer Fest

As always, the Michigan Brewers Guild Detroit Fall Beer Festival didn't disappoint. With 60 breweries and over 450 beers available, there was enough to satisfy everyone's thirst. This is the second year they offered the festival on Friday and the 5th year on Saturday, and I really enjoy it because the breweries showcase their fall seasonal beers such as Oktoberfests, Pumpkin Beers, Brown Ales, Stouts, Barleywines, and different barrel-aged beers.

Brewery Vivant takes it outside for 3rd Annual Wood Aged Beer Fest

This year Brewery Vivant moved the Fest outdoors to make room for more people and more beer. Over 20 different barrel aged and sour beers were available for tasting at the event via a commemorative snifter. Barrel Aged versions of mainstay Vivant beers included the Whiskey Rooster (barrel aged Big Red Coq,) as well as a barrel aged Triomphe IPA.

Brewers Grove tour recap of Grand Rapids

17 Grand Rapids area breweries participated in the latest “Beer City” collaboration effort and this time around the emphasis was all on the trees. Every brewery involved contributed at least one tree-inspired beer recipe ranging from smoked beers, barrel-aged beers and even fruit beers. I spent the launch week visiting breweries to sample as many of the tree beers as possible, and visited a personal record of over 2 dozen breweries in one week’s time!

Recap of Michigan Brewers Guild 16th Annual Summer Beer Festival

Ypsilanti’s Riverside Park is the home to Michigan Brewers Guild’s Annual Summer Beer Festival, one of several events hosted throughout the year. I’ve previously attended the Winter Beer Festival in Comstock Park, but this was my first year to check out the long-running Summer Beer Fest, and like many of the Brewers Guild events this year’s event was a sellout with over 6000 attendees. Note: if planning to attend one of these events, be sure to book your hotel weeks if not months in advance!
