7th Annual UPtoberfest October 13th in Escanaba!

Upper Michigan’s premiere fall craft beer and wine event is coming to Escanaba’s lakefront on Saturday, October 13th. The seventh annual UPtoberfest is scheduled for 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. (ET) along First Avenue North in downtown Escanaba, immediately behind Hereford & Hops Steakhouse & Brewpub.

2nd annual Hoptoberfest ups the ante for Hopcat’s Fall Beer Festival

Hopcat is already the third best beer bar on planet Earth (per Beer Advocate magazine,) and they obviously have their sights set now on inter-planetary dominance based on this year’s Hoptoberfest festival. 40 Michigan breweries took over Ionia Street to celebrate. Standouts included Hudsonvile’s White Flame Brewing Co. which in addition to their astounding Bourbon Barrel aged Black Sheep IPA, also featured a beer drinking, cigarette smoking “G Man” super hero mascot making the rounds throughout the festival. Although there was no German beer tent this year, instead a booth of rotating taps featured such speciality pours as the Hopcat Rapture Wild Ale and Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout.

Homegrown Festival: Homegrown Food Music and of Course—Beer!

Last weekend, Ann Arbor hosted its fifth annual Homegrown Festival. Yeah, yeah, I can hear all of the pot jokes you naughty folks are making but seriously folks, this thing is a winner.  The festival brings together farmers, gardeners, nonprofit groups, butchers, bakers, candlestick makers and brewers—all under one big tent! There was music, tons of food and a most wonderful beer tent where I am not at all ashamed to say I spent most of my time.

The Michigan Brewers Guild (MBG) is proud to announce that its popular Detroit Fall Beer Festival, held at Eastern Market, is expanding into a 2-day event in 2012. Weather, Marquette Combine for Successful U.P. Fall Beer Fest

Saturday, September 8, was your typical, run-of-the-mill late summer day in Michigan: chilly, cloudy, partly sunny, fairly warm, and with periods of light showers and no showers at all. Also included: U.P. Beer Fest 2012, set in Lower Mattson Harbor Park in beautiful Marquette, MI. The wife and I (well, mostly I) were anticipating a great day sampling the wares of more than 35 Michigan craft brewers, along with some local food and musical entertainment. In all, we were looking forward to five hours of controlled and polite beer mayhem!

The Homestead Plans 4-Day Oktoberfest Celebration

In 1810, the Crown Prince Ludwig was married to Princess Therese of Bavaria. The party they held was so popular that they decided to repeat it every year. In celebration of this honored Oktoberfest tradition, The Homestead is planning a weekend gathering, October 4-7.

Clark Lake Spirit Trial Beerfest

The second annual Clark Lake Spirit Trial Beerfest is coming up. Like last year, this event is a fundraiser for the Clark lake Spirit Trail, a nature and hiking path that travels around the entirety of Clark Lake near Brooklyn, Michigan. It will be held on Saturday, October 6th from Noon to 5pm at the Clark Lake Golf Course in Brooklyn, and tickets are $25.00 in advance and $35.00 on the day of the event. The focus of the event is on craft beer and with over 15 breweries and 75 different styles of beer available, there should be something for everyone.

Recap of Wolverine State Brewing Company's

My friends and I, we didn’t know what to expect. I thought that they would come into the bar so fully in character such that, if a murder broke out and we demanded that they call 911 on a cell phone, they would reply, “What art thouest a phone of cell?” sending us into chaos as the shooting continued. Or perhaps they would be in period costume and throw around a lot of thous and arts and nunneries. What would it be?!?!
