With Vander Mill’s Spring Lake location reaching full capacity in 2015, a new location for expanded production was sought and found at 505 Ball Ave NE off from Michigan Avenue in Grand Rapids. The new facility and tasting room includes four 350 barrel fermenters allowing for annual production to increase by 5 times the Spring Lake location’s current capacity. With plenty of room for additional expansion, this new location will allow Vander Mill to continue compete not just as a regional hard cider producer but also as one of the top hard cider producers in the nation. In addition to the increased capacity, the new location also doubles as a full kitchen and taproom successfully bringing the cozy, welcoming atmosphere of the Spring Lake location to the Grand Rapids Beer City.

It was determined that a small batch of Uncle John’s Fresh Apple Cider produced earlier this month was contaminated with E.coli bacteria. The batch was produced on October 16, 2015 and was sold at the farm between October 17, 2015 and October 19, 2015.

An almost 150 year-old family farm has been recently restored near Hudsonville and will serve as the base of operations for the new Farmhaus Cider Co. Authentic German style cider sourced from locally grown apples is currently in production and will be available beginning in February for distribution via both kegs, with cans to follow. Two varieties of cider will be available initially. Both will be near 7% in terms of alcohol content and are described by Farmhaus as follows:

Despite common assumption, hard cider is not solely reserved for the autumn season. Vander Mill Cider produces a variety of hard ciders at its Spring Lake facility – year round. Uncle John’s Fruit House Winery & Cider Mill, located on US27 North in St. Johns, has earned a 3rd Place in The Royal Bath & West Show in Shepton Mallet, Somerset, England. This is the second consecutive year that Uncle John’s has been recognized at this event – noted as the world’s largest cider competition.
Northern Natural Cider & Winery recently opened a cider house located at 324 E. Front St. in downtown Traverse City. Parking can be difficult during the busy summer season, but lucky for those interested in giving this cider house a try, Northern Natural shares the block with one of the new parking structures.

Renovated Café & Tasting Room and Expanded Menu Also Offered
One of the Midwest’s largest craft cider producers – Vander Mill Cider & Winery – is introducing a new line of canned ciders. Earlier this year, Vander Mill completed a 3500-square-foot, $600,000 expansion at its facility in Spring Lake. This includes the addition of fermentation equipment and a canning system, which will produce 1800 16-ounce cans per hour. In all, owner Paul Vander Heide estimates his 2013 production to top 100,000 gallons.
