Interview with Travis Fritts Owner/Brewer at Detroit Beer Company

I caught up with Travis Fritts Owner/Brewer of Detroit Beer Company at Crunchy's in East Lansing. In this interview, one of that questions we asked Travis is why drink Michigan Beer? He explains that beer is a product that can stand up to aging but beer is meant to be consumed locally and the further away a beer is from it's source, you might get a good beer and you might not. It's best to consume beer close to where it made.


We also asked Travis what does Detroit Beer Company do that makes them standout from other breweries? Travis explains that they take the time to make sure that they access and manipulate, to the extent that they can, the technical parameters that effect the end product. Specificity water PH, water treatment, the mineral content of the water used, the specs of the malt, the quality of the raw materials including hops, malt, yeast propagation and the treatment of the yeast. They endeavor to make the most biological and non-biological stable beer that they can without use of any ingredients that would cause an adverse effect on the flavor of the beer and make it taste less then a fresh and original product.
