motor city beerfest contest

Motor City Brew Tours is excited to offer another epic two-day Beercation in Traverse City. Fishpankakas had this to say on Trip Advisor TM “Call it "beercation" and call it GOLD! Went on the overnight bus trip. It was so well organized and flowed so well. Snacks and water were welcome and we were well taken care of. Five breweries, one brew tour and a free night in downtown Kzoo. Staying at the Radisson in Kzoo couldn't have been better. This was such a great experience that we're looking to do a private tour! “ (Reviewed April 16, 2015)

old-nation-brunch-article

Anyone who knows me, knows I love brunch. Anytime you can get someone else to make breakfast at a reasonable time of day (i.e., after 10 a.m.) makes my whole week better. Recently Old Nation Brewing Co. in Williamston started serving brunch on Saturday and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Recently I was able to sit down and talk with Matt Jason from Sleepwalker Spirits and Ale. Sleepwalker Spirits and Ale was partly inspired by a love of creating spirits and by a historic preservation article describing how small businesses can preserve the integrity of the community in the face of large “big box” businesses. They want to be, “A locally owned business that is a reflection of the larger community.”

Walking up to the future location of Ozone's Brewhouse in Old Town, Lansing, it currently looks like an old warehouse that needs a little TLC, ok a lot of TLC. After talking to the father and son team of Dan and Kyle Malone, you start to envision the space as it will look in the near future.

Grand Ledge sits above the Grand River and is only about 13 miles west of downtown Lansing. With the sandstone ledges to climb, the historic Opera House, and its downtown area to explore, the city of Grand Ledge has a lot going for it. Next time you visit, stop in Sanctuary Spirits nestled just on the edge of town on Saginaw Highway. It is located in an old historic church and is the first microbrewery in Grand Ledge.

Reo Town Pub Receives A Whole New Look

reo-town-remodel-2015-article

Everyone has that local bar that makes you feel welcome just by walking in the door. Reo Town Pub is that bar for me. Recently, the Beer Hound offices were just a spiral staircase away. On bad days, or just days we decided to close up shop early and have a beer, you could find us talking to owner Roxanne and either Jack or Sarah while they bartended.

Finally, a touch of history is coming back to the Lansing area. After a long hiatus, Lansing Brewing Company is back and ready for a fresh 100-plus year run. “Our original brewery started brewing beer in 1898. We supplied beer to those that built Lansing,” is a quote on the wall and we are excited to see them brewing beer for a new generation of Lansing workers.

Ellison Brewery and Spirits is a true hidden gem in the East Lansing area. Located on Dawn Rd., nestled among a few industrial buildings, Ellison is housed in a building with no name that over the years has been used by the Lansing State Journal for a distribution center, and warehouse space for many others. Eric Elliott and his crew have given new life to this 10,000 square foot building and have created a warm and relaxing atmosphere inside.
