Beer and Popcorn Pairing at REO Town Pub

On Thursday, October 4th, we will be hosting an evening of beer and popcorn tasting at the REO Town Pub, just down the street from Beerhound Headquarters in Lansing. Featured at the event will be popcorn from Lansing's own Cravings Popcorn and beer from Atwater Brewery, one of our favorites in the state. The styles of beer and the flavors of popcorn will be all over the map so it should be a real workout on the palate!

Brewery Vivant Hosts 2nd Annual Wood-Aged Beer Festival

Brewery Vivant wants to give you wood. That's right, the venerable Belgian zen masters of Grand Rapids, operating from their monastic cloisters in East Town, are holding their 2nd annual Wood-Aged Beer Festival on Saturday, October 6th. The event will feature several rare, limited-release bourbon barrel aged and sour beers as well as food specials and duck brats (yeah I said it) all day.

Ale to the Chief!

Ale to the Chief!

We know you love coming here to read about Michigan craft beer and upcoming beer events, but we'd like to give you a bit of crucial advice on something we think is even more important, the upcoming election....

How to make Lasagna with New Holland's Golden Cap Saison

Marinate chicken in the beer, Italian seasoning (2 tbs), the juice of 1 lime and 2 cloves crushed garlic for 1-2 hours. In the mean time, heat 1 pint cream to a simmer and reduce heat. slowly whisk in 2 cups of fontina and 1 cup parm till smooth (be careful not to burn), add garlic powder and white pepper to taste. remove from heat and set aside. Add the sweat red onion in 2 tbsp of olive oil in a skillet, add diced red pepper and cook till just tender on medium heat (about 5 min). Transfer to bowl. Return pan to med-high heat, brown chicken thighs. Combine peppers onions and chicken. In a medium sized bowl combine ricotta, spinach, egg, Italian seasoning (1tbs), 1/3rd of the prosciutto (chopped) (reserve enough for one layer in your pan) , 1 cup parm. Open can of tomato sauce.

How to Make a Sweet & Spicy Grilling Sauce using Arbor Brewing's Strawberry Blonde

My aunt recently gave me some "exxxcellent" grilling sauce, and I was inspired to attempt a clone of it. What I concocted wasn't as good, but was this tangy, tasty, fairly easy recipe for a sweet & spicy grilling sauce using Arbor Brewing's Strawberry Blonde, a Belgian style ale available during the summer months. This beer is brewed with real strawberries and has strong notes of spice, citrus, and coriander. It is a perfect pairing for tangy, spicy, grilled dishes and works perfect as the base for sauce.

Recap of Brewery Vivant Beer Dinner at The State Room

We were at The State Room inside the Kellogg Center in East Lansing last night for this month's "Tapped" beer dinner featuring Brewery Vivant from Grand Rapids. It was a 5-course meal served with several of Vivant's standby beers and a couple of their limited batch features. As usual, The State Room did a tremendous job with the beer & food pairings, and the dish presentations were fabulous.

Clark Lake Spirit Trial Beerfest

The second annual Clark Lake Spirit Trial Beerfest is coming up. Like last year, this event is a fundraiser for the Clark lake Spirit Trail, a nature and hiking path that travels around the entirety of Clark Lake near Brooklyn, Michigan. It will be held on Saturday, October 6th from Noon to 5pm at the Clark Lake Golf Course in Brooklyn, and tickets are $25.00 in advance and $35.00 on the day of the event. The focus of the event is on craft beer and with over 15 breweries and 75 different styles of beer available, there should be something for everyone.

The Collective Tap: Detroit's First Craft Beer Store that Focuses on Enjoyment, Education, and Engagement!

Here is further evidence that while it still has a long way to go, the long-beleaguered city of Detroit is indeed turning around. The Collective Tap, a new craft beer store and tasting room, will be soon be opening its doors as the first craft beer retailer in the city. Focused on "enjoyment, education, and engagement", The Collective Tap will be much more than a beer store. With their main focus centering on Belgian and English beers, they will have a first class tasting bar where customers can sample products prior to purchasing them. Also, various classes and events will be held on different styles of beers and how, for new craft beer drinkers, to find one they like. In addition, the store's owner, Emily Miller, is Detroit's first female Cicerone Certified Beer Server.

Great Michigan Beers For Your Tailgate!

Well, the time has come once again for getting up earlier than we do for work (and much earlier than we ever did for class) to go stand around on campus, sometimes in the freezing cold, and drink beer. That's right, it's football season, and that means it's Tailgate Season. Of course, tailgating isn't exclusively about beer. Hard cider, mulled wine (for colder games), or a stiff Bloody Mary are also great options, and there is always food. Lots of food. Party subs, wings, burgers, breakfast burritos, chili, deep-fried everything, etc, etc...every group has a different strategy and theme for their tailgate.

Lansing Beer Week Presents: Michigan Beer Tap Takeover Bar Event

The third day of Lansing Beer Week, Tuesday, August 21st, will feature two "Tap Takeover" events. Both will be held in East Lansing, one at Crunchy's and the other just down the alleyway at Beggar's Banquet. These bars, while vastly different in almost every way, have become two of the biggest players in the craft beer scene in the area.
