Rockford Brewing Company recently teamed up with Amore Trattoria Italiana of Comstock Park for a 6-course dinner pairing a selection of mainstay and “drifter” brews with the culinary creations of award-winning chef (and co-owner) Jenna Arcidiacono. Both the restaurant and brewery source many of their ingredients locally, and this food and beer pairing was no exception using produce and meat from local farms and beer using such ingredients as locally sourced hops and malt.

Perrin photo article

This past weekend I decided to check out Perrin Brewing Company and try out a few of their brews for a review. The brewery and tasting room itself had a clean, spacious, factory-like quality and a gorgeous wood ceiling. The overall aesthetic was comfortable and inviting. I also received prompt and friendly service at the bar, despite the fact that the venue was filled to the brim with thirsty patrons.

Recap of On the Rock Scotch Ale Tapping at Vitale's of Comstock Park

Muskegon is certainly carving out it’s place on the 2013 beer map. In addition to the previously announced Unruly Brewing Co., two more breweries have announced their intent to open this year, first Fetch Brewing in City of Whitehall, and most recently Pigeon Hill Brewing downtown. A primary incubator for much of this activity has been the MOB (Muskegon Ottawa Brewers) and has kept many of Muskegon’s local brewers a close knit community including participation in the annual Learn To Homebrew day. Two members of this group who are doing their part to keep Muskegon on everyone’s brewing radar are Russ Smith and Tim Borreson.

For the last few years, the Michigan Brewers Guild has watched their annual Winter Beerfest grow. Every year has seen the ticket count grow higher, the grounds pushed farther, and the response? Far exceeding the expectations of the Guild over and over again.
