Frankenmuth served up more than its slice of Christmas with it's 2nd Annual Michigan Bier Celebration

On July 20th, 2013 Frankenmuth served up more than its slice of Christmas. It is not only home of Bronner's Christmas Wonderland, Zehnder's Famous chicken dinners or the Frankenmuth Brewery celebrating 150 years of brewing tradition, it also hosted the 2nd annual “Michigan Bier Celebration” at the Harvey Kern Pavilion.

Frankenmuth Brewery Kicks off Summer Music Stage on The Beach at Campus Martius

When plans of the Beach at Campus Martius were first disclosed earlierthis year, Frankenmuth Brewery’s Brand Director, Maher Sarafa saw the perfect opportunity to promote its newest beer brand, Twisted Helles Summer Lager in a vibrant, new beach setting located in the middle of Downtown Detroit. “After reading an article about the urban beach at Campus Martius, I instantly knew the Twisted Helles brand was a natural tie-in with the fun and excitement the Beach was going to create.” said Sarafa . “Sand, wood deck, beach chairs and outdoor bar sounded too good to be true, but Campus Martius delivered the vision and then some.” The result has been a win-win partnership for both the brewery and Campus Martius Park.

Several Michigan Drink Options for St. Patty's Day

One again, beer lovers, St. Patty's day is right around the corner. It's a day full of hearty food and hearty drinks, but Craft drinkers find themselves surrounded by macro 'green beer' and a rather intense general love for Guinness. There's nothing wrong with either of those, of course, but I'm here to give your St. Patty's day festivities some options for a Michigan Beer twist!

Art and Craft Beer Fest Recap

The 2013 Art and Craft BeerFest

Lansing's first ever Art and Craft Beer Fest at the Art Alley building in REO Town was a huge success, and we want to thank everyone involved. From everyone who purchased tickets to Roxaanne, Craig, and Jack from the REO Town Pub, from the volunteers to the bands and artists, and all the breweries and their representatives--this was truly a great night and could not have been pulled off without everyone's support.

A Few Great Beers to Pair with Thanksgiving Dinner

In just a few short days, most of us will embark on one of the quintessential events of the American experience: heading home for a 2-3 day death-march of way too much food, family, and football. Yes, it's Thanksgiving, the time to remember how thankful we are for our family, and that we don't live with them every other day of the year as well. As far as the food, Thanksgiving dinners can either be delicious and savory or poorly seasoned and boring--there seems to rarely be an in-between.

However the dinner is where you're going, you're likely going to need (we strongly encourage it, anyway) a few beers to help you survive, especially while watching the Lions. So, we thought we would put together a beer drinking guide to Thanksgiving, a couple beers to sip on throughout the day and then a few to go with each of courses in the traditional Thanksgiving meal. We hope you find it useful and wish you safe and happy travels wherever you're headed this week.

2nd annual Hoptoberfest ups the ante for Hopcat’s Fall Beer Festival

Hopcat is already the third best beer bar on planet Earth (per Beer Advocate magazine,) and they obviously have their sights set now on inter-planetary dominance based on this year’s Hoptoberfest festival. 40 Michigan breweries took over Ionia Street to celebrate. Standouts included Hudsonvile’s White Flame Brewing Co. which in addition to their astounding Bourbon Barrel aged Black Sheep IPA, also featured a beer drinking, cigarette smoking “G Man” super hero mascot making the rounds throughout the festival. Although there was no German beer tent this year, instead a booth of rotating taps featured such speciality pours as the Hopcat Rapture Wild Ale and Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout.

Great Michigan Beers For Your Tailgate!

Well, the time has come once again for getting up earlier than we do for work (and much earlier than we ever did for class) to go stand around on campus, sometimes in the freezing cold, and drink beer. That's right, it's football season, and that means it's Tailgate Season. Of course, tailgating isn't exclusively about beer. Hard cider, mulled wine (for colder games), or a stiff Bloody Mary are also great options, and there is always food. Lots of food. Party subs, wings, burgers, breakfast burritos, chili, deep-fried everything, etc, etc...every group has a different strategy and theme for their tailgate.
